Karen Sadock of the Confraternity of Penitents looks at the history of the Divine Office and its role in forming a particular spirituality of both liturgical and mental prayer, proposing that the Church today can be nourished, energized, and elevated by embracing the Divine Office in the context of the Confraternity's paradoxical Vision: “To give glory to God and surrender to His Will through the living of a medieval, penitential Rule of Life.” The Liturgy of the Hours takes us to the Heart of the Church as we join in praising God with the Angels and Saints. By carrying the Psalms in our hearts and minds as well as on our lips, we become part of the living river of praise streaming through the corridors of time since the dawn of Creation.
